I got my score just now. It's 230/93! I am soooOooo relieved the whole waiting thing is finally over. Now the only thing left is securing a visa and passing the CS and it will be all over soon...oh wait, still have to take step 3 and....hell!!! I'm only half-way through. Anyways, congratulations to Chip and Kim for winning TAR5!!!

Thanks y'all. I am planning to go into either Internal Medicine Primary Care and then go to Dermatology after...or go into Combined IM/Pediatrics and go to Allergology fellowship.
Lucky....I feel we are like close friends now coz we've been leaving messages since Step 1 together with the other guys. So rest assured you would do very well. Hope we bump into each other in the US soon...I think it would be awesome. I'll definitely pray for you. Now all I need is a visa and I'm good to go.

Just had my visa application denied. I guess I can't go on with the 2005 match after all. Thanks to all the people who supported me and my cyberfriends. Special mention to lucky and tasneem. I hope you match next year. All the best to you. I'll try my luck again next time with the visa. Life sometimes suck, but I aint complaining.
Anybody here who knows how to refund my step 2 CS application? Is it possible? And if you're wondering, my sked should have been on Nov. 8 and yes, someone has already taken my slot.

  #35

hi lander,
not sure if u remember me, it's because of you that i found this site & now it's helping me a lot.
Sorry that ur visa applic. has been denied. Just try again, sometimes it depends on the interviewer
per se. hang in there i'm sure ull be given one next time.
About ur CSA money , not sure if you can r/s for next yr. try to write or make an appeal to ECFMG or NBME.

Pinoyimg right? It's good to know that you are finding this site helpful. I am glad to be of service to you. There's no way I can make it for the 2005 match. The earliest date I can schedule for a visa interview is Dec. 29. Anyways, I have decided to get into a residency program here in my country, finish it, and then go the US for fellowship. At least I have already taken and passed both USMLE Steps. Now all I have to do is take the CS during my residency (on vacation leave). You think it's possible? Good luck tuesday, have fun studying.

  #37

hi lander,
of course it's possible for you to get here for the residency training. You're lucky that you already passed steps 1&2. Always remember that hard work pays & you worked hard for ur tests & you made it. Only thing is ur upcoming visa approval for the residency here in US.
good luck in your interview.

  #38

lander how r u doing?

  #39

How are you my cyberfriend? I am about to start Dermatology Residency here in my country. My visa problem now takes the back seat as I move on with my life. Of course, I will still take the CS hopefully by next year. For now, I am quite excited in starting residency. Just bought the 2 volumes of Fitzpatrick's Derma in General Medicine and it was soooOooo expensive. Anyways, I hope you're doing fine. Keep in touch ok? Here's my e-mail just in case >>> landerph@yahoo.com

hi lander!
today i go through all the posts , in beginning i was in happy mood but till the end i was very sad :| . I am appearing for step 2ck next month in delhi,it really sucks dear. my back is aching...still sitting in chair & studying...I think luck is also important along with hard work for success. I am doing kaplan books, kap q book, kap mock exam, nms q review. Do u think any more is required to pass, as i am already short of time???? :?: any advice for exam. day?? how is ur residency in derma going??

  #41

lander how ru? how is the derma residency going?

  #42

First of all, I wish you the best. I think step 2 isn't as dependent on the review materials as it was in step 1. Most of the questions were structured in such a way that it tests the things which are already in your head, the knowledge we gained in med school. If I would recommend something, I think it would be underground clinical vignettes for step 2. Sharpen your clinical thinking, and most of all, manage your time very well. The questions are long and complicated, so learn how to read between the lines. Practice absorbing the questions in just one reading, coz you won't have enough time reading the question the second time. Some people say Crush Step 2 is good, I'll leave it to you to decide.

Derma is great my friend. Enjoying very much..every minute of it. Good working hours, relatively healthy patient population, lots of procedures, and diverse pathology. Had my first punch and excision biopsies yesterday. Lots of freebies from the med reps too. My frustration about the visa is now almost nil. I strongly believe it was a blessing in disguise. I still plan to take the CS next year though. Can't waste that much money and the relatively good grades I had in the MLEs. How about you? I hope you're doing great.

  #44

i'm not doing great, just about average. anyway i'm very happy that u have adjusted so well and enjoying ur work.
all the best.

  #45

Hi, was reading thru your post. I am so sorry about your not being able to get the US visa, i hope u get it next time around. But congrats on your Derm residency, that in itself is amazing
I had a question for you. I am trying to study for the step, i just received the score and missed passing my 2 points. I don't know how to go about this again. I you, or anyone has advice i'd greatly appreciate it. I too now miss the match this year.

Thankx, hope to here from you soon

Why are you not doing great? Can we help?

  #47

Try to take 1 or 2 months of vacation. Away from the books and anything that will remind you of the MLEs. Now is the time to relax, unwind, and build up your stamina in preparation for the battle ahead. After you feel you had your fill of unwinding and energizing, go through your materials again and find out what could have been the problem. It could be that you had the wrong materials, or that you had the right ones but approached it the wrong way. Choosing the right review materials is sooo subjective. Try picking ones you feel most comfortable with. Materials you can actually READ and Understand. Of course, some of the books are essential like Kaplan materials. If you can acquire Swanson's Family Practice review, that would be great. Some of my friends who recently took step 2 told me Swanson's is good. Of course it is easier said than done when I tell you to forget all about failing it the first time and focusing more on re-strategizing the second time around. But think of it this way, the next time you take it, you will be more knowledgeable and will know what to expect and how to go through the entire process. Make it to your advantage. Good luck and I hope you get what you want. You deserve it. We all deserve it.

  #48

thank u so much lander.
i took about two weeks off and i kept agonizing over the time i was wasting. but i am ok now and have hit the books again, i hope to passs the first time and with good scores too.
with friends like u i think i can do it.

  #49

Try to relax every now and then. Do not study and read 24/7 or you might get crazy. Remember, overheating is one of the reasons why some people fail. You know what they say, studying new irrelevant materials might displace some of the more important ones already in your head. I know you will get a high grade so don't fret.

  #50

man, i hope i get as good a grade as you lander. After i finished step 2, i thought i did ok. but then after recalling some questions, i realized i missed several really easy questions. and i'm beating myself for it.

one guy wrote that if you feel like crap after taking the exam, that's a good sign, is that necessarily true?
