Status: Indian IMG, graduated in 1998; wanting to take MLE. Planned test day: April 15th 2005.
Required: Recommendations regarding prep. style and daily diary. All this prep style may sound funny-but I am pressed for time. Kindly give lavish advise and point out as many loopholes as possible - the more, the better. Guys, help me score 95+.

Resources: FA, Goljan (36p, 100p+audio) + Big Robbins 6th edn (Ref), BRS (Beh Sci), Costanzo(Physio), Lippincott's(Biochem), Micro(Levinson), Kaplan (rest of the subjects), HY (embryo, immuno, mol bio, gross anat, neuro, biostats). In the forums, people have been advising to do a lot of questions - hence, I have decided to do the following: qBook, UCV, Pretest, BSS (all subjects), NBME and QBank. CDs: Kaplan (2003,2004); Appleton&Lange Alert
Please be lavish in your advice to make my endeavour an outstanding success.I am thankful to prep4usmle, niti, nonstopdoc, perhaps and rjay for their constructive suggestions, which have been helpful in editing (streamlining) my diary schedule over the days.

Hi,
I would focus on only one set of books like Kaplan or BRS or HY or whatever book for a specific subject and use the rest of books for reference.

Have performance!

If you have Robbins 6th Edition, it's a very good book for review and it has some pics which come to exams (according to Goljan)
Baby Robbin is good for quick review.

The key issue in Patho is Goljan...
Best of Luck

  #13

Yes, Jsmart...I have ROBBINS 6th edition...volmnous...but Goljan makes me fly thru chapters...ur right..thanks for the suggestion.Bye

Hi,
As I think ,starting with Behav. is good idea ( because there are some startegies ,you can follow during your prep ).Next thing... start with Biochemistry and then it will help with Immuno and Micro....then Anatomy....so it will help in Physio and Patho ( biocem. is also important before patho. ) ...and at the end Pharma....covers everything !!.....one more thing ....at the end do Goljan and system based revision ( BSS and Step-Up ) to integrate everything !!
So, in other words ...Posted Chat Schedule ( By step1 ) looks fine to me....and at the end I will do system based review and Goljan ??Yes...one more ...FA lol

  #17

Niti --> Marvellous suggestion!! =D> I will shift biochem up the schedule and put it before Mol Biology...actually i kept it down for the sake of remembrance... but u gave a brilliant idea!! Integration is the key! I am already listening to one Goljan lecture daily...and will do it till run up for exam!(abt 3 revisions) Reinforcing material in the gyri :P But I think i will stick to micro with path, later on only...cannot do it too early or else I may forget...and lastly, I will do the Qs...kaplan, BSS, stepup etc.
Thanx a zillion!!!

niti, thanks for the idea. i'll revise my sked for a more productive review.

  #19

start with 3 Ps patho physio and pharma.

cos u have to understand them and not cram them up. and also they take most time.

behavioural science and rest are mainly cramming and u'll forget it later so better do them later.

patho - goljan is best.

dont read kaplans for patho and anatomy- no added advantage

stick to one source otherwise ull find problems in revising them in the end.

and one more thing PRETEST books just SUCK and r total time wastage.

smallfidget u have more than enough time (approx 71/2 months) so dont worry.

6 months are adequate for step1.

and ya nobody now reads BSS.

hey SMALLFIDGET
Your study schedule look " TOTALLY PERSONAL SCHEDULE" to me.Here is why...
Haematology ..just after Anatomy !!!!
In system based approach ...subjects starts with following order..........Embryo,Histo,Anatomy,Physio,Patho and then Pharma !!
And so many 2003 CDs ...why not latest QBank ?
Feb14-March15 = GRAND REVISION1!!!
March16-Apr14 = GRAND REVISION2!!!
So,what will be the days for GRAND REVISION.... 1 AND 2 ...IT MEANS revision of all subjects FOR 2 TIMES...sounds good though !!

I am sure your schedule will work for you and since everybody has their own style and schedule , hope we will find some common base and motives for discussion groups !!
