hi, i'm a forth year Iraqi medical student in Baghdad and i want to prepare for step 1. The problem here in Baghdad is that there aren't enough resources and review books besides that the educational system here is not that good. I would be very thankful for any advice.

Listen, I just joined this forum 10 days back and am thinking of taking USMLE. So, today I know a lot - how? I went through all the messages...one at a time...took notes when I found something important. That helped. I advise you to something similar. Then, you will have very less Qs. Those Qs can be posted. Otherwise, you will have so many Qs and nobody will respond. All the best!

Most American students use the Board Review Series to review pathology and physiology (these two books are also nicknamed BRS physiology and BRS pathology). Other review books include First Aid for step one (this is also a very popular book- but it is organized more as an outline) and the High Yield series (these are books devoted to topics- i.e. anatomy, embryology, biochemistry, etc...). Many students also use Kaplan's q-bank (this is a bank of ~2000 'board-style' questions). Some students also buy Kaplan's board review books too. Many students swear by Goljan for pathology (I've never used it, but many students do). If you search either barnes and noble's website or amazon, you'll be able to find the books that I've listed. If you have a problem accessing the websites, I'll post links to them. You can purchase all of the books online and have them shipped to you. You should also be able to purchase q-bank online also. Also, most people don't use every single board review book that I've listed. It is not advisable to do that since you'll be swamped with too many books that you will never read. You need to figure out which books are best for you, and then purchase them. The only books that I think are an absolute must are First Aid, and the BRS review series for path and physio.

Numan, hi, If you have a credit card you can buy books online. You can also ask someone in the U.S. to send you the books. Also, I came to the U.S. from Iran about a year ago and I know that in Tehran you can almost find all USMLE books for a very good price(including Kaplan lecture notes), so if you have anyone in Iran, ask them to send you the books. Good luck!
