I am an IMG very interested in taking up a residency programme in the US. The major hurdle is the difficult visa situation in the present scenario. I came across this course offering a diploma in nursing, certifying one to take up a job as a RN in the US(after CGFNS), where one is offered a green card but is expected to work as a RN for at least 2 years. I wanted to know whether a 2 year work experience as a RN would constitute clinical experience required by an aspiring doctor to get into a residency programme? Will it help at all? otherwise it would mean a 4 year gap after my graduation(MBBS) as I would be training and working as a nurse. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Would the 2 years of nursing count as clinical experience? Yes, it would. But in my 15 years of working in residency, I don't know of any physician who has taken this route to get a US residency position.
