No, if you don't take the exam within the eligibility extension, then you will lose the money. Been there and done that!

Thanx alot Retro, So, there is no way I can skip the exam with a refund of fees for step 1.You sound as if u have beeen through this experience.Do tell me about it. Thanx again

A long time ago in a state far far away I planned on taking my step II. Managed to waste away 4 months (and my elligibility period plus the extension) watching tv and stressing over NMS questions! I guess I was too burnt out after my finals in med school. I had hoped to just take my final exams and then go take my part II. Anyway, that was 2001 and I still have yet to take my part II! Oh, and my USMLE transcript very conspicously states that I registered for but didn't sit/schedule my exam. I hope the ECFMG made good use of my $600.

Thanx again Retro.I hope u take your exam soon.As for me ,I am a medical student and I guess there is no way I can skip the exam. OK pray for me.
