Hi to all...I saw this site a month ago and read very good advices to all exam takers...Im currently reviewing for Step 1 again, I took the first exam last year and unfortunately failed...this year I started with the Kaplan Webprep and supplemented Kaplan notes with First Aid and QBank...I have plans to listen to Goljan's lectures based on what I've been reading on this forum...the thing is lately Im undergoing a lot of pressure since Im planning to take the exam next month...the thought of taking the exam again scares the heck out of me...I want to be optimistic as I want to but I just cant sometimes...esp with my family adding the pressure...they just expect too much from me that adds up to my frustration esp with what happened to my exam last year...I need advice badly...thanks 8-[

Well, remember that since you have taken the test once, you are in a much better position than you were last year! You have a great advantage over all the first time test takers. You know what kind of questions were asked and what subjects were emphasized. Just as a reminder, Kaplan notes are more than enough. FA is a must to know and I haven't used Goljan, but so many people here say so many good things about it, maybe I should have used them. You still have two months to go, plenty of time. Don't let your family pressure you. You need to find a calm environment to study, and if you are not working, raising a family, etc. Make sure you have a large chunk of uniterupted time to study. Try taking the NBME test a week or two before your USMLE date to see how you are doing. If you are not comfortable passing, remember you can postpone your exam date. Now you have to bare in mind that if you postpone once, it is much easier to keep postponing the test. So use your best judgment about that. Don't try and read too many things. Focus on whatever notes you have and just read them over and over. I read Kaplan 4 times before my test. And by reading, I mean studying them properly. This is just a test. You can do well. It takes hard work and dedication (and a good attitude). I think this website is full of people to help motivate you. Best of luck!!!!

thank you retroviridae...I really appreciate your reply and advice...your right, I will stick with Kaplan and FA, I already made a mistake last time of reading all the high yield reference books and turned out just confusing me...btw, your prep & exam experience post was worth reading...like you, Im also an IMG, grad 2000, came here in US 2002...am doing part time work 2x a week so I still have more than enough time to spare...I will take the NBME test 2 wks prior just to see my standing and will keep you posted on that one...again, thanks! my congrats to you and God Bless!
