Kaplan Qbank USMLE

grin after being a member of this forum for a while, i thought it's a great idea to follow the tradition of a diary (by ahdy and namf, and now josh). it will definitely help keep me on my toes, especially my last month of review. and i believe the helpful and supportive members of this forum would be kind enough to give suggestions or encourage me during my lowest moments.

here goes...

exam schedule:
aug27

prep:
6months
first three months on and off reading due to out of town family events (averaging one week straight review per month)
serious reading started june

social status:
IMG
married
2003 graduate

ref:
goljan audio
kaplan webprep with lecture notes
first aid
brs patho

questions:
finished qbook (one section every after corresponding subject in notes)
qbank
brs patho comprehensive questions

reading status:
done with first reading
done with first aid revision

current status:
doing webprep for final revision of all subjects
physiology-thyroid hormones
qbank scores (per 50 random questions)22/44%, 23/46%
usmle cd- 30/60%, 26/52%

i know the numbers are bad. my mistake- i keep second guessing myself! i keep ignoring the fact that distractors are doing their job, and that is to distract you and convince you that they are the correct answers!

ok, off to my study...

did the last block in the usmle cd: 25/50% sad that's weird. and i felt they were easy. gotta go and check out the kaplan explanations to find out the mistakes in my thought process.

  #3

hey bm,
just keep going! grin ....don't get frustrated. taking my xam on 26th.....not going too hot either. better to make mistakes now and learn from them while u have time to improve. smiling face

binnie

  #4

hi binz! thanks for the encouragement grin i'm now going through the kaplan explanations. my mistake: i read too fast and misread the choices  i missed important words such as "not", etc. which totally changed the meaning of the statement sad

  #5

yey! done with my webprep physio grin now on to behavioral science. hmmm maybe i should take advantage of the kaplan demo of behavioral before i continue with my webprep

  #6

eek :? the demo was really a demo! grin short and unproductive sad ok back to my webprep grin

  #7

Yeah bm ,
Keep going and don't forget Goljan lectures ...

ps. hey kalsam, you sure are having fun with bounce

  #14

i'm using kaplan 2002 books. so now i have new and unused 2004 books which came with my webprep. if interested, just pm me. thanks!

  #15

Just so that you know that immunology in new kaplan notes is totally different from the old one...

  #16

hi bm
after reading ur dairy i feel as though both of us are in the same boat.i'm in the middle of my webprep.planning to take the step in dec.when are you planning to give it.i wasted my time till now.started preparing seriously just few days back.how are you studying ?,i mean whats the way...is it like this...1st hearing to the ledctures and then the notes or 1st notes followed by the lecturs?i'm very confused as how to follow.
plz give me some suggestion.
hi cococat how are you?how are your studies going on?

  #17

thanks cococat for the tip. i'll look into it. i guess i'll be marking them afterall

kiranadi, since i spent most of my time reading all the books ahead (and still with a terrible score), i'm doing the webprep with first aid. that way, i could go back through fa for rapid review during qbank assessment.

right now, i'm dumping all additional info into my first aid. since you still have until dec to prepare, i suggest that you read your notes along with webprep. after going through the whole thing, do webprep again, this time with fa.

i'm scheduled to take my exam in aug27.

  #18

and i was hoping to see goljan in the webprep! i guess he's far too valuable to be readily available sad

  #19

Hi kiranadi

I am way behind my schedule, trying to catch up right now...

  #20

kaplan simulated: 52%

right at the middle of the exam i was soooo exhausted i didn't wanna go on

on to my webprep

  #21

love that moto by nike...just do it! smiling face hang in there and u'll be fine in the end.

binnie smiling face

  #22

hi binz! grin how are you doing with yours? my first block was 60% then all of a sudden all the rest of the blocks went on a seesaw, averaging me to a 52

yeah, we really have to go on with our study schedule and routine, and we'll get it in the end grin

  #23

i'm really glad we had the chat going! grin it was a great and interactive learning experience. i'm done for the day. thanks everyone!

  #24

did nine lectures from behavioral today. man, i really can't get a tail of the statistics stuff! i felt like it confused me even more sad i'll go ask my hubby for some enlightening since he's good at it (being an engineer) grin

will do questions tonight. am i going too fast that's why my scores are bad? (i'm averaging to 45 mins per block). i hope it gets better this time. i do the random questions rather than subject-wise.
