Hi forum- I will be starting my second year soon. I have searched for some advice on when to begin study/how long to study and have found a lot of general advice, not much specific advice, both here and on google. What are the advantages/disadvantages to starting as early as possible? How can one integrate USMLE study as one is taking classes? Perhaps someone can share their experiences or give me some links to sites that I missed on the forum. Thanks a lot!

Jawetz micro, katzung pharma, hy anatomy, embryo, neuro, mol gen, & acid/base blance, Nettr's atlas, brs beh science, patho, & physio... (maybe lippincott biochem but not too sure) if you take good lecture notes i'm pretty sure these are all the books you will need for your course, and for the steps.. these are the BEST books, the only reason people don't use them as much is because they are VERY comprehensive and you can't finish them for steps, but if you MEMORIZED these books a couple of times beforehand then step 1 would be a breeze..(if only i knew then i wouldn't have read anything else)

hey, kitzmau, get yourself a copy of first aid now and start using it in your 2nd year studies. when it comes time for the exam, you'll be very familiar with it. just study hard 2nd year, esp. pathophys, and make sure you truly understand what you are learning and not just cramming for tests. if you've got 6wks after school ends till the exam that's plenty of time to do your intensive review. most people who study longer have had more time elapse btw second year and step 1. using high yield books alongside your studies this year will help, too. if you can, get your hands on goljan audio. he'll help with your m2 year, too. best of luck!
