elderly pt is diagnosed with prostate cancer ,the doc wants to inform him but he refuses to listen .
 according to kaplan ,its said that if pt doesnot want to hear his diagnosis or prognosis ,do not tell him .
But we need to inform him right anyways. ?
Can anyone explain ..
According to a chapter 23 BRS Behvioral Science question, if the patient is competent, then ask him when he would like to hear his diagnoses. Before his cancer can be treated, he MUST be informed of the diagnoses. Since there is some question about his emotional state, asking the patient when he would like to receive the diagnosis would be a better option than forcefully telling him.
but in a Q from kaplan pt was competent ,and he denied to listen diagnosis /prognosis and the answer given was honour his wish .
