According to a chapter 23 BRS Behvioral Science question, if the patient is competent, then ask him when he would like to hear his diagnoses. Before his cancer can be treated, he MUST be informed of the diagnoses. Since there is some question about his emotional state, asking the patient when he would like to receive the diagnosis would be a better option than forcefully telling him.
