I am an IMG and had 9 years' working experience as a surgeon. However, since I have been doing research for a physician for several years in USA, and my usmle scores are low, (just have been waiting for green card till now), so I want to apply for less competitive family practice or Internal medicine.
How should I say in my Personal Statement? i.e. Should I emphasize how well I did as a surgeon? How to explain why I want to switch to family practice or Internal medicine?
I am really appreciated for any of your help.

The truth is the best. They will know from your CV that you working as a surgeon - it's good experience.
