Heya everyone. I was wondering what you guys think about Kaplans Center prep course, and the Webprep course. Has anyone here used either? Are they worth it? Which would you recommend to someone who has just finished second year, so everything is relatively fresh. Anyway, I just want opinions please! :?:

I did Center prep more to motivate me to actually study. But I can say all I really needed was the notes. I watched only half the videos before I decided they were wasting too much time.

I think Kaplan live review is best for those people who are img's.... Beause American grads are being taught by the same teachers and tested in the same question format since they got into med school, and also American grads have backgrounds in Biology/Micro etc from their college days; It would be better if you just stuck to your coursework and did qbank i think... I am an img and the only reason i am taking Kaplan is because my coursework was soooo much different, and my testing was completely different than what is on the usmle....

So the Center Prep is a waste of time? I was thinking it might be, just watching videos where you could be doing proper study. Do you know anything about the Web prep course?

hi there,, i did kaplan center and it was just a waste of time,, its like you are doing your med school over and by the time you get to the last ones, you already forgot the first ones, so go by your review books,, do lotssssss of questions, first aid, get Goljan audios and more questions, that would for sure help you alot and if you can do kaplan live leacture,, they are good,,,,
good luck

Center prep is very helpful for me. I wouldn't be surprised if people say it's a total waste of time, as I think this course is not for US medical students. The course helps you to understand the notes better, especially for IMGs like me that didn't learn medicine in English at all.

Has anyone used Kaplan's Web prep? Is it any good? Are the Kaplan notes included? Thanks a million!

i'm an IMG too. but the thing is, i'm a US IMG (so i don't think language would be a problem). I studied med school out of the country. and i agree with the above posts that they do teach med school differently  . and the questions i'm used to in med school were entirely different  with the way usmle is formatted. i think kaplan videos, webprep, and live lectures are great for IMGs (especially if you don't have patience with books like me grin ). they're only useful to US med studes in my opinion, to give them a kick (they might not need much kicking since most US schools don't let their studes enter third year without step1).

they usually come with the lecture outlines (kaplan books) which are great for review grin

I'm a US IMG as well! Where do you study? Have you already taken your step 1? What did you do to prepare?
