Hi everyone! I'm a new member. I used: BRS Pathology/Robbins Review ?s (both excellent) BRS anatomy for ?s/HY anatomy for Review (BRS great ?s) Lippincott Biochem/Kaplan Qbook for ?s (Lippincott great figures, charts, etc) HY embryo (hated it) Katzung Pharm & ?s (great tables, figures, and excellent but difficult ?s) Genetics (my lecture notes) HY Neuroscience (hated it) BRS Physio (excellent concise book and decent ?s) HY behavioral science (good book for burnout) Lange Micro/Immuno (excellent all-around book, esp for immuno...can't say enough about that book) FA for shelf exams 2 months before step1 (did not use for step1 review) In retrospect, i should have studied from this book along with my courses from day 1 of my M1 year for guidance. Qbank 81%/100% completed (NON-random) IV Qbank 87%/100% completed (Random) Qbank full length 5 days before 81% USMLE CD 47/46/47 4 days before Neither NBME exams taken Robbins Review ~80%/>95% completed My exam was VERY EVENLY DISTRIBUTED among the above topics: I was most surprised with how much anatomy was on there ~30-40?s (6each on the shoulder/knee/elbow...JOINT EMPHASIS), Embryo ~5-10?s Behavioral Science is my weakest subject and it showed...midway between borderline and higher performance on the score report. 20-25?s Histo & CELL/MOLECULAR BIO ~20-25?s Biochem fairly straightforward (they even asked me about enzyme deficiencies in porphyrias and it wasn't referring to the acute intermittent type) 20-25?s Physio was reasonable 50?s Pharm was very challenging 40-50?s Path was fair 50-60?s Neuro 15-20?s Micro/Immuno 30-40?s (75:25 in favor of Micro) Mid-June Step1/received July 20th 253/99 NOW ON TO CLINICAL SHELFS and STEP2!

Step 1 exam: 27th July 2005 Score reported: 17th August 2005: 97/240 4 months preparation. Mainly Kaplan books, FA and Kaplan Q bank. Kaplan q bank score: 67%, 95% completed. NBME form 1 (3 days before exam): 560 I left the exam thinking that I'd done really badly, so I guess this proves that it's really difficult to know how the exam went until the actual results arrive. Good luck to all those who have their exam coming up.

hey every body, I am an IMG from Argentina, I took the exam on august 1st, it was really hard, I thought that I wasnt pass, but today I 'd received a pass score of 205/83 I 'd been studying for 8 months, but I 'd been taking care of my child too, so it was a little less time. I will apply for OB&Gyn, do you think its a good score for the matching?

Step 1 exam on 4th Aug 2005 Scores reported on 31st Aug 2005 Scores received on 5th September 2005 Score: 242/98 Total studying time was about 7 weeks. For the first 5 weeks, about 3-4 hours a day. The final 2 weeks, I studied around 7-8 hours a day. Did all of Qbank. Began with low 60% and ended with low 70%. I read BRS pathology, BRS Physiology, Microbiology MRS, High Yield gross anatomy, embryology and biochemistry in the first 2 weeks. I then read First Aid 'slowly' over the next 3 weeks. Then, I re-read everything for the second time 'quickly' over the final 2 weeks. I did qbank questions for 2 hours a day throughout the first 6 weeks. As you probably noticed I didn't study enough pharmacology, it was one of my worst subjects on the actual exam. I did not use other kaplan material or attempt the NBME tests, kaplan simulatory test or NMS. Good luck everyone! Your posts have been a great source of motivation.

Duration of preparation- 11 months Step one Score- 212/86 Kaplan Q bank- 51% 4 months before exam NBME 1- 390 9 weeks before exam Q book- 76%, NMS- 68%, Goljan- 73% One month before exam NBME 2 480 8 days before exam USMLE CD- 39-40-40 one day before exam The grand scores above are sure to give an average person like me a huge inferiority complex. I almost decided it is not worthwhile to post my scores here until I read DrVoodoo's remarks. I have also posted in Exam Experiences.

USMLE score 231/94 Q-bank average of 66%. I looked at this blasted forum before I did my exam and panicked, thus this place is just a reference. I found the exam very clinical and although it had a difficulty similar to Q-bank the actual material is much broader. I used prescription, Goljan lectures and notes, Kaplan biochemistry (Lionel Raymond) plus the benefit of 2 years British physician experience. Don't focus too much on Q-bank, work your tits off, you'll do well.

Materials Used: Studied for 2 months avg 10-12 hrs day Anatomy: Rapid Review, High Yield Anatomy, HY Neuroanatomy (important source from my exam), High Yield Histology (great review source), High Yield Embyology Behavioral Science: High Yield Behavioral Science Biochemistry: Rapid Review (written by Goljan), High Yield Molecular Biology Physiology: BRS Physiology Pharmacology: Katzung & Trevor Microbiology: Levinson & Jawetz Pathology: Rapid Review (Goljan) Step-Up, First Aid for USMLE Step 1 2005, Goljan audio (almost 2x) Blackwell Q&A- 81% Rapid Review For USMLE-80% Q-Bank- 76% USMLE CD: 45/42/41 NBME 1- 580 (correlates to 236) NBME 2- 540 (correlates to 228) USMLE STEP 1 taken on 24.8.05 (between my second & third year of med school) score received 3.10.05- 239/97 I would say that questions are the most things things to practice to do well on this exam, secondly in my case the NBME exam (especially form 2) underestimated my score so although it is somewhat accurate it shouldn't act as a deterent. I would also like to thank this forum, my family and especially GOD "Search out GOD and his might, seek out his His Presence always" (Psalms 105:4) Best of luck to everyone!

221/90 Not the greatest score but I got what most surgery programs are asking for. I studied for around 4 months....not really hard at first but then hunkered down the last 3 weeks. I read Kaplan notes: Anatomy/Biochemistry/Physiology/Microbiology/Pathology only once. Did not read any Pharm from Kaplan...too extensive and in depth. The last 3 weeks simply did Q Bank and read FA about 100 times. It's a must. It's the only reason I passed I would say. USMLE CD: 38/40/39 Q-Bank: 76% cumulative NBME I: 560 one week before the exam NBME II: 610 one day before the exam I was pretty nervous exam day, but was pretty confident. I would say that the questions were pretty straight forward for the most part. I found myself guessing quite a bit. I made some real silly errors and wish I could take them back, but what's done is done. My advice....read the questions carefully. They all have something in them that make you want to pick the incorrect answer. Get some rest. Sleep is essential the night before the exam; you're going to need the energy. Finally, do not second guess yourself. Your first instinct is usually going to be the best answer. The exam asks a lot of basic questions wrapped up in what seems to be a very complicated question stem. Relax, think through it, and make a confident answer choice. Chances are you will be right. Finally, good luck to everyone taking these darn things.

HELLO EVERYBODY, first of all thanks to all the members in this forum.I had gone through tough times and whwnever I feel tensed I would log on to this site and read the posts.I got my scores yesterday and I got 80/195.Though I did not get the dream score I feel happy that I did it.The negative aspect is that i did not have any company and I did it all alone.Added to that I faced a problem with my test software. It is the time to discuss some exam experiences. 1.It is all about the BASICS.Please do stress on the basics and I promise u will be doing around 90's. 2.The day befor the exam is really crucial.Have some good time the way as u like. 3.I got 62 on average with q bank.I did NBME I & II, scored 410 and 430. 4.The place where I stayed (central london) was busy and could not get good sleep, hope I will not repeat it. 5.I studied only KAPLAN.That should be enough unless u are looking between 95-99. 6.This is a post from a friend who did low on mle and I wish all my friends out there will do better and all the best for the members who visit this forum.
