step 1 4/26/05 : 209/85 nbme A (1 month b4): 84 according to conversion chart (450) nbme B (1 week b4): 81-82 (420-430 cant remember) (note: nbme now recently has a conversion chart. i used that to get these 2 digit scores. they claim it correlates with the real thing which i believe is true.) usmle cd (1-2 months b4): about 60-62% qbank (3-4 months b4): 57% ( begining was getting 50s then towards end getting low 60s) i feel NBME is the most accurate. but take it towards the end. and PLEASE dont take the exam unless u at the minimum get 400 on the NBME. i dont care for whatever reason you have. i repeat DO NOT TAKE THE EXAM UNLESS YOU R GETTING ATLEAST 400 on the NBME except unless you know it is an abberation and u have 70% on qbank or the kaplan cd. if u r getting 500 or above and above take the exam ASAP and use the extra time for step 2 if ur low on time. also u people who scored lower than 99 please post ur scores here to help the others out. most of us do not get 99. but most of the people posting the scores here do.

by the way i got 66% (99/150) on the usmle CD about 6 weeks b4. i felt it was low. i took it at the center which i think is a great idea to psychologically be ready when u take the real thing. it is well worth the 50$. i was a lot calmer for the real thing.

Hi! Finally I can add to this post. My result reached me yesterday. Study Time - 3.5 months BSS - varied from 60 - 80% Kaplan Q bank (subject-wise) - mid 70's to early 90's IV Q Bank - Same Kaplan Simulated CD (8days before exam) - 87% USMLE CD (7days before exam) - 45,46,47 - got 3-4 questions directly from here - I felt the exam was most similar to this. NBME I (6days before exam) - 800 NBME II (2days before exam) - 750 NBME Retired Questions - around 80% Also did random blocks from Rapid Review and NMS. STEP 1 SCORE - 263/99 Studied all the Kaplan notes. Also Goljan for Path - he is an amazing teacher. Read First Aid on the last day. Tried to solve a lot of questions especially for Behavioural and Biochem which were my weak subjects. ALL THE BEST to everyone on this forum.

Just received my Step1 score: 231/94! I kinda promised myself that I'd post my exam experience here (regardless of what score I get) because this forum helped me get thru rough times in my review, especially those times when I get either too lazy or too tired to study. So, here is to every (IMG) nervous wreck who is about to take the test: relax! you know more than you think you do! Step 1 score : 231/94 Kaplan Q-bookscore: around 65-80 % USMLE CD/ time b4 exam: 1 weeks before the exam Kaplan diagnostic: 58% (pre-review course score) U can e-mail me at bacqpack@yahoo.com for details on my review or for anything about the exam

Step 1: 240/97 NBME 1: 530 NBME 2: 560 USMLE CD 2 weeks before: 42,41,40. Qbank: ~75% correct, 80% completed, not all random blocks though. I'm blown away...higher than I ever thought possible... I used the Kaplan video course, and highly recommend it - if only for the fact that it puts you on a course with a nice daily schedule. Then do Qbank at night.... I did not rely on 1st AID very much, read thru it at least a few times, but not as a primary source - although the Pharm and Micro in 1st AID was very on point for my exam. I really relied on Kaplan's books and class notes for the most part. I used Goljan audio + the HY100. The BRS books aren't that great IMO, and HY's are hit and miss. Any other questions, let me know. My test, as I posted before, was HARD. definitely the harder version. The 1st 2 blocks especially. It got better as it went along. So, if you walk out of there with a bad feeling...it can turn out that you did just fine good luck to you all

Exam on May 24 Step 1 score 89/219 Kaplan Q bank 70% (random blocks of 50, this is my suggestion) USMLE CD 37,32,37 (4 weeks before exam) NBME 1 500 (4 weeks before exam) NBME 2 500 (3 days before exam) correlates to 219 It's a very strong correlation b/w NBME and USMLE score. Must do. Good luck to everyone!

This is my first post but for those who are interested: Step 1 258/99 on 6/1 score received 6/24 Q bank 75% (all random, 100% completed) NBME 1/2 didn't take due to lack of $$ USMLE 150 Q's 43/44/41, 2 weeks before exam Studied for 2.5 weeks after cumulative finals in path and pharm and used primarily first aid and q bank along with some other high yield books. I am so happy with this score and can't believe it since I didn't even get into med school the first time. Hard work pays off in the end though and goo luck to everyone.

For me, the NBME Form 1 was most like the real exam. I studied a total of 6 weeks. Good Luck!

USMLE Score 240/97 Exam on 6/10/05, Recieved Results on 7/22/05 Kaplan Qbank 66% Kaplan Diagnostic 65% NBME 1: 540 Rule #1: EXERCISE!! Rule #2: EXERCISE!! You are preparing for an 8-hour exam...it's a marathon. You have to be prepared mentally and physically. You are preparing to become a physician...healthy should be coming out of your pores!! Rule#3: Wakeup early, it is best to get used to this, because clerkships do not run on your schedule. Physicians are at work before anyone else is. Rule#4: sleep 7-8 hours/night Rule#5: Study Optional Rule#6: Meditation (I found it to be a great way to use my break time and feel mentally refreshed, even on exam day!!) Rule#7 Robbins Pathology Pocket Companion read through this twice took me a 1.5 weeks to get through it Robbins Questions Book First Aid for Pharmacology, Anatomy, Behavioral, Biochemistry (also used class notes for Biochem) Personal Notes from "The Immune System" by Peter Parham WEBPATH!!!! I wish I spent more time with Webpath, you can do well going through webpath many times + First Aid many times.

Hey thanks to all on this site for their help! score: 257/97 (June 14) Kaplan Diagnostic: 55% (10 wks prior) Kaplan Simulated: 73% (8 days prior) Kaplan QBank: 72% (100% - completed by subject area) USMLE CD - 46, 45, 42 (7 days prior) nbme 1: 630 (245 - 6 days prior) nbme 2: 710 (*257* - 2 days prior) I basically used QBank and First Aid almost exclusively, except for BRS Behavioral Science which was very good, and studied for about 4 weeks after the end of second year. I only had 1-3 questions on the test NOT found in these 3 sources, although I have heard otherwise from classmates. I walked out of the test clueless as to how I did, I wasn't even sure if I passed, so feeling on test days really don't correlate to score! Best of luck to everyone yet to take their exam!

Score: 256/99 (July 20) NBME 1: 600 (5 weeks prior) QBank: low 70's (shared it with friend who scored lower) I don't recommend my approach to anyone else -- I studied at a light level for many months while during school, and upped it slightly to subintense levels for the month I had between the end of second year and the test. I didn't follow any regimen, and I didn't organize my time all that well and instead jumped around between topics that I didn't feel comfortable about. The one thing I wish I knew about earlier: Pharmacology for the Boards and Wards. Best of luck to everyone! It's an evil test, but it can be done.

Third time IS the charm. Heres another low score, but its a PASS baby. USMLE STEP 1 194/79 - USMLE CD- 42, 28, 29 66%
- Q-Bank- 64%
- Kaplan Diag at the Center- 58%
- Kaplan Sim- 57%
- Blackwell- 60%
- NBME 1- 390=190
- NBME 2- 390=190
You dont have to make a 99 on this thing, you just have to pass. If you want to know how and what I studied, look at the Support Forum, My Two Cents thread. Good Luck everyone

Step 1 score early-June: 267/99 Board Sim Series/% complete: ~75/100 NMS Prep for Step 1/% complete: 82/100 Q-bankscore/% complete: 81 (initially)/100 (only random blocks of 50, did it 2-3x over, cumulative was ~89%) NBME 1/ time b4 exam: 680/4 weeks NBME 2/ time b4 exam: 700/2 weeks USMLE CD/ time b4 exam: 90%/3 months FYI- I started studying 6 months before the exam and jsut did an hour or two per day until the month before...then stepped it up to 6-8 hours per day. I did as many multiple choice questions as I could get my hands on. And then I did them again. (BSS, Kaplan Qbank, IVQbank, Qbook, NMS, BRS, Blackwell, etc). Start using First Aid for Step 1 early and read it over and over. Don't try to memorize it all the first time through. Just keep reading it until it sticks. If you're in school the year before, read First Aid along w/ class just to see what the real important topics are. I also read the entire Kaplan lecture prep book series the month before the exam. Went through the Robbins Question book 1.5 weeks before and only did Q's w/ pictures. Re-read BRS Path 1 week before, focusing on the questions at the end of each chapter. Reviewed First aid the last week and slept/played golf a lot. I recommend clearing your mind the week prior...review the basics... so you can relax during the test (I know it sounds crazy, but it worked for my MCAT and Step 1). Good luck to everyone. This site helped me a lot. Thanks for all the advice and study tips!

Hey all of you guys, i go to medical school in the US, and i just wanted to post my results, and give an idea how i did on all the standard prep materials USMLE SCORE 255/99 (test taken 6-9) Qbank avg - 75% (once thru, all random, timed blocks of 50 questions) Kaplan Simulated Test- 73% (12 days before real exam) USMLE released questions- 80% NBME1, NBME2- did not take them since i did not want to psyche myself out before the exam In general, i was completely shocked at my score. I am not going to lie, i spent 25 days after my second year studying for step 1, prob around 13 hours a day. Every morning without fail i did a timed set of 50 questions (exactly at 8am, since my real exam was starting at 8 am). I had listened to the goljan lectures once before may, then one lecture a night for 24 days (i couldnt make it thru general path a second time, only systemic path) Kaplan webprep helped a ton for biochemistry, HY for behavioral, and Webprep was great for embryo/anatomy. For physiology, BRS was very helpful, for pharm, a combo of qbank, qbook, and first aid. In sum, I think attitude during the day of the test is huge. I was so calm during my exam, if i did not know a question, i wouldnt let it get to me, i just guessed, and moved on. So good luck to all, I know how tough it is studying for this seemingly endless exam!
