Hi folks,

I am an IMG working as a post doc in a lab.
I prepared for 2,5 months every night from 7-8pm up to 12am (50 questions daily untimed/tutor)
I made Qbank twice (1.time 50%tile/ no data for second time)
In addition I read first aid twice.
In the test exam (150 questions of USMLE) I had 80% correct answers.

score (exam 03/16/07): 233/97

2,5 months part-time are enough!!!

Take care

My score:

228/95

Total prep time 2 years. Full time employed as a Surgeon as I own and run a busy Surgical Hospital in suburban Bombay.

Average 1-2 hrs a day. But took 15 days off before exam.

Kaplan center prep videos twice.

Kaplan notes Twice.

Kaplan QBook once: I found this to be the best.

Kaplan Q Bank Once

Did not take NBME or UW-Qbank

First aid Twice.

Most Importantly, I listened to Goljan Thrice and read his path notes cover to cover twice.... I just love Dr. Goljan. I sincerely hope I get to meet him in person one day....

Thanks also to the guys posting on this forum. Especially WOMBAT. She was my inspiration to start the prep.

NBME3 580 /3 weeks before test

NBME4 610/4 days before test

I just got my Score for step 1.
235/98

Correlations
Qbank 73% only did 45%
Usmle CD= 82%
NBME 1= 226 one month before
NBME 2= 236 two weeks before
NBME 3= 234 7 days before

I had the same doubts as maninder_amc when I gt my score but then I talked to a friend that took all his test las year and he told me that the score correlation had changed that he got 238=99 on step 3. So I started looking at scores from this year and this is what I got so far:
226 = 94
227 = 95
233 = 97
235 = 98
236 = 99
The correlation can change at every time, what's important is that a 97 is a 97 any year, that's what a faculty told me.

Hi

Took Step 1 April 5. Got the result May 1.
229/95.
Q Bank 72 random timed

I was really confused about the two digit-three digit correlation. My theory is that since they raised the bar by 3 points for passing the score they must have droped the bar from the top 3 points to make the exam fair. The 75 score is now associated with a higher two digit score.By raising the bar, it would make it more difficult because you have to get (for example) an extra three questions right to get to the next "percentile".

The two digit score has to be equivalent every year so a person who got a 95 this year did just as well as a person who got a 95 on the test last year. But since the three digit score is smooshed, the correlate of the two digit and the three digit score is lower than previous years. Note that all people taking the exam in 2007 have the weirdo scores. (a 95 last year was 235 but this year is 229; a 99 last year was 243ish but this year it is 236--this is about a 6 points 'smooshed factor')

This is just a theory--it is not perfect at all. I do not have any official evidence to support this.nod

It's a miracle! Had one reading only of the following books 3 months before the exam: HY Anatomy, Neuroanatomy, Lippincott Biochem, HY Behavioral science, MRS microbiology, BRS Pathology and BRS Physiology. One week before the exam, read FA. Immunology and Embryology I got only from FA. By the way, I was working full time the whole time, took a one-week leave only before the exam. The entire time, I was studying at night and on the weekends only (I work in research, a 9-5 job).

Exam on March 27, 2007
OASIS updated on April 18, 2007
Score received on May 3, 2007 (I'm in the Philippines)
USMLE CD about 2 weeks before the exam: slightly over 60%, I think.
Kaplan Qbook (which I didn't get to finish): ~60% also.
I didn't do NBME, Kaplan Qbank, nor USMLEWorld.
And my score: An astounding 221/92. (I couldn't be prouder, with the kind of prep i had)

  #341

I passed with a 234/98.

I'm an IMG from Saba University. Scored only 63 on the Kaplan Diagnostic Exam there at the school. I did the Falcon Review Course in Dallas, TX. It lasted 7 weeks and was worth it, as long as I ignored their advice to record myself, which wasted time. Followed it up with 1 month of intensive self study using mainly the Falcon Books and USMLEWorld questions.

Did USMLEWorld Questions, by far the best available. Scored 72% consistently on random, untimed tests on USMLEWorld by the time I finally sat for the Step 1. Only was able to do all the questions twice. Scored 32, 40, and then 46 on the three blocks on the USMLE practice CD.
Did not do any of the NBME tests, didn't have the $$ or time.
