Hye friends, I am new to this place. :| And somewhat bewildered! Since I am an IMG i guess I must have a modest score at the least... :? I have just started preparing for the step 2 .... and am really confused and overwhelmed! Am planning to go in for the exam in the first week of dec... I really need some good help and would be willing to make regular contributions in here... Is their someone who has just begun his step 2 prep... Also...I have been suggested by a senior that first aid ,blueprints and kaplan lecture notes are about sufficient....I have these three but I also have my doubts! Are these really enough..? DO I have enough time.. is a period of 4 months enough? And what other books are "must have" Any and all advice is welcome! P.S:Expecting some earnest advice

I've begun pretty recently but I've been told to do kaplan, crush the boards (or step 2 secrets which is a similar book but in q/a format) and lots of mcq's. I've also been told to do swanson's fp if I have time. There's these kaplan video lectures that you can get off e-bay, they seem pretty good. Personally I think blueprints are good too (I read them during med school) but most people say kaplan is better. Good luck!

Friends: I took Step 2 Saturday, and I have the following advises: Practice your timing really well, but try to make your own blocks of questions including VERY LONG QUESTIONS with MULTIPLE SIMULTANEOUS PATHOLOGIES AND SEVERAL (AT LEAST 15) multiple choices. In this way when you get to the real test you will not freak out. I was very close to... and in ost of the cases I had to answer the last 5-10 questions in almost no time. About books, in boards and wards is all the information that you really need to know in adition to your clinical experience, but know it by heart. All the tables of electrolites, gases, reanl diseases....know them by heart. But be prepared that you may know the book very well, but the question requieres more you reasoning and logic that you real knowledge in the topic (typical for what is the next step to do.... chicken or egg???). I would not recommend to have more than one text for each specialty. Get only one and filled it with extra notes if necessary, but try to avoid a lot of books.
