Hi pals: Aztreonam does not have cross allergy with penicillin. What is the meaning of cross allergy? and why does Aztreonam not have cross allergy with penicillin, as we know the it belongs to this honorable family called penicillins?? :?:

Cross allergy is if you are allergic to one drug you will be allergic to the other drug. Cephalosporins have a 10% cross allergy incidence with penicillins. Aztreonam is in the family of B-lactams, not penicillins.

Aztreonam is a Monobactam which is a B-lactam but by no means a Penicillin !!

You must be kidding.:evil: I know it is not a penicillin. :evil: I meant it belongs to B-lactam family.still you gave no answer for my question: Why does it have no cross allergy with penicillin ? Another question is: Is it necessary to learn the chemical constitution of each drug? I mean that this is a tertiary amine and that is tetracyclic... :?:
