What is the best way to distinghuish heart murmurs?

  #2

make a picture of heart valves in ur mind with relation to their time of opening and closing Vs systole and diastole of left vent. murmur of stenosis will b heard when the valve is open and murmur of regurg is heard when the valve is closed. moreover, murmur of right heart are exaggarated by inspiration anf those of left heart by expiration.
This is how i can describe it in simplest of its forms

this is the way i remember them:

---------------Regurg.-------------------Stenosis
AV valves-----Sys------------------------Dyas
Semilunars---Dyas-----------------------Sys

not that hard. is it?

Remember the location of the murmurs, most of the questions give the answer away by giving u the location on the chest on auscultation,eg if says apex means mitral, 2nd right intercostal means aortic...etc.

mani is right the best way is to remember the sequence of events on cardiac cycle, have a look at the diagram of cardiac cycle where the murmurs drawn with it

Monet--

I appreciate all your questions. However, are you out painting a picture somewhere?? What's this habit of posting qs and rarely giving replies?

I do hope you do come back and tell us when we're right..or not!
