Can anyone explicitly state the difference between well differentiated and poorly differentiated and give a couple of examples?

terms are usually used in relation to tumors so i guess thats what u r asking.
in well differentiated tumor, th e cells closely resemble the cells of origin. while in poorly differentiated ones, the cells are bizarre with changes like abormal shape, polarity, increased mitoses, etc etc, i m ean cell are anaplastic
most bening tumors ar ewell differentiated. follicular ca thyroid is anothe rexapmle of well differentiated while anaplastic ca thyroid is an example of poorly differentiated one

The pathologist almost always uses thses terms in reference to tumors

Examples:-well differentiated-lipoma-resembles adipose cells
poorly differentiated- Glioblastoma multiforme type IV
closer to the embryonic stem cell of this tissue

Thx mani.
