Hi USMLE folks, I never really did understand the P-ANCA & C-ANCA--it was always just memorized as having something to do with PAN and for C-ANCA I can't even remember the association now... Anybody want to point out the salient points Thanks for not diss-a-POINT-ing

Thanks Mani, and sorry for not being clear. I got the part about P for PAN and P-ANCA. But I still don't understand what the process is (what is P-ANCA? it sounds like Paul Anka or pee anger...it drives me nuts!!) Thanks

these are just the a/b found in the neutrophil. when a neut is studied under microscope after processing (flouresence prep) some a/b are found to collect around nucleus and others are in cytoplasm. So those aorund nucleus (p-ANCA) are found to be against Myelopeoxidase, those in periphery (c-ANCA) are found to be against Proteinase -3. So both p and c ANCA are just descriptions of the pattern of flourence in the neutrophil being stidied. The corelations with different conditions you already know. Hope it helps.
