I came across it in a question and never heard of it before.

The muscle cells of heart form a syncytium--that is, they are connected to each other, separated by thin intercalated disks.
IC discs r irregular transverse thickenings of sarcolemma between attached muscle cells
and contain
- desmosomes
- gap junctions
