6 yrs old girl with post strep GN .she is 15th percentile for height and 10th percentile for weight . BUN is 50 what limits progression of this pt's Renal failure : a. low protein diet b. decreased Na+ and daily calorie intake C. increase K+ and NaHCO3 intake D. strict fluid restriction e. dialysis sorry friends i didn't post this Q in peds forum...since i think people usually visit this forum more than peds.

I think ans is [b] asmi and dimps is correct. Primarily PSGN is nephritic syndrome not nephrotic (only 10 % ). 2 points to remember here- In kids with PSGN- most important aim is Control BP and prevent overload. In diet- I have read somewhere that oral intake of protein has nothing to do with renal injury in PSGN.Infact more attention be paid on low salt diet and water restriction as these kids are thirsty. dmnz :wink:
