Im little confused in here :roll: ,CT scan or LP which one to go first . Can anyone tell me ?

in kaplan notes it is given CT scan is the initial test , if the initial CT scan is normal and a SAH is still suspected tnan a LP is done kaplan medicine pg 107 correct me if i m wrong

I agree with you dimps . since LP in SAH shows xanthochromia (blood mixed in CSF)..we don't go for LP first . but only when mentioned cost effective...i think LP should be answer ? :roll:

An LP is contraindicated in case of increased ICP. If CT is -ve shows no mass lesion, intracerebral hematoma or hydrocephalus (all C/I) do an LP, >12hrs after the onset of headache. CSF is uniformly bloody after a few hrs and xanthochromic after a few hrs.
